Fimbriae and determination of host species specificity of Bordetella bronchiseptica.
A monoclonal antibody, designated CF8 and prepared against fimbrial protein enrichments of Bordetella bronchiseptica 110H, was determined by immunogold electron microscopy to bind to some but not all fimbrial filaments on intact bacterial cells. Comparison of the reactivity of this antibody with that of monoclonal antibody BPF2, which is specific for Bordetella pertussis serotype 2 fimbriae, in...
متن کاملInteractions between Bordetella bronchiseptica and its Host
Bordetella bronchiseptica is a common mammalian respiratory pathogen and is the closely related progenitor of the human pathogen Bordetella pertussis, the organism responsible for whooping cough. Mice are a natural host of B. bronchiseptica, making them an appropriate model for the study of many aspects of the bacterium's biology and its interactions with host cells. In this study the types of ...
متن کاملProperties of R factors from Bordetella bronchiseptica.
Genetic properties and host ranges of R factors derived from Bordetella bronchiseptica of pig origin were examined. All of 61 R factors tested could confer resistance to streptomycin, sulfonamide, and aminobenzyl penicillin on their host bacteria. All of them were identified as fi(-) (no fertility inhibition) type and were found to exhibit no restriction of phages lambda, phi80, P1, P2, T1, T3,...
متن کاملBordetella bronchiseptica bronchitis.
The clinical course of a patient with bronchitis caused by Bordetella bronchiseptica is described. The organism was recovered on one occasion from a protected catheter brush specimen obtained at bronchoscopy and on two occasions from expectorated sputum specimens. The infection was eradicated with antimicrobial therapy.
متن کاملPhenotypic and genotypic characterization of Bordetella bronchiseptica strains isolated from pigs in Poland.
A total of 209 Bordetella bronchiseptica (Bbr) strains isolated from pigs were examined. Phenotypic study included: biochemical characterization (motility, catalase, oxidase, urease activity, nitrate reduction and growth on MacConkey agar) and antimicrobial susceptibility (disc diffusion method). Genotypic studies based on detection of three genes encoded virulence factors, such as: flagella (f...
